CULTURAL COMPETENCY LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING

Seminar Title: "Working With the Muslim American and Arab Communities"

This course will improve the cultural competency skills of law enforcement officers when interacting with members and institutions of the Muslim American and Arab communities (i.e. interviewing, gathering information, etc.). Of the millions of Muslims and Arabs living in the United States, more than one million live in California. This training is designed to address prejudice and sterotypes, provide an overview of Muslim and Arab cultures, review protocols for effective interaction in policing and build cooperative relationships.

* Muslim and Arab Cultures
* Demographics
* Overview of the Contemporary Muslim World
* Political Islam and Terrorism
* Suggested Protocols for Interaction with Muslims, Arabs and Their Institutions
* Opportunities for Cooperation Between Local Muslims, Arabs and Law Enforcement Agencies

* More effective interaction with Muslims and Arabs as potential victims of hate crimes or as witnesses.

Since 1994, ING has presented the seminar "Working with the Muslim American and Arab Communities" to hundreds of police agencies, sheriff departments and district attorney offices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area.

Seminar Format:
Designed specifically for law enforcement agencies, this seminar may be conducted in two or four hour segments. The content includes a combination of presentations by Muslims and Arabs from your local community and a Q & A session. There are two options for training: 1) P.O.S.T. certification; and 2) Flexible.

P.O.S.T. Certified Option:
Dates: To be determined by law enforcement agency
Location: On-Site
Trainers: Maha ElGenaidi or Ameena Jandali
Certification Hours: 4
Fee: Negotiable for one four-hour presentation on site to a maximum of 30 participants; Recommended donation or honorarium of $500 per session

Flexible Option:
Dates: To be determined by law enforcement agency
Location: On-Site
Trainers: Maha ElGenaidi or Ameena Jandali, joined by local Muslim or Arab leaders
Training hours: 2-4
Certification Hours: n/a

Fee:
Negotiable; A donation or honorarium of $500 is recommended per session.
