Dynamic Trainings to Foster Safer Communities
This course addresses how law enforcement can help combat racism by working with marginalized racial, ethnic, and religious communities experiencing bigotry in the United States. Consisting of a panel of speakers representing African Americans, Indigenous Peoples, Latinx Americans, Asian Americans, Jewish Americans, and Muslim Americans, the workshop is in three parts. The first part addresses how racist narratives about diverse peoples were formed in history, embedded institutionally, and manifest in each community. The second part challenges stereotypes by having each speaker address what they want law enforcement to know about their communities. The third part addresses what law enforcement can do with local communities to counter racism both interpersonally and institutionally and build an inclusive society based on mutual understanding and respect.

This course will enhance the understanding of law enforcement officers of the specific types of hate crimes Muslim Americans confront, the socio-political environment that leads to hate crimes against Muslim Americans, and the culturally responsive skills needed to respond to hate crimes effectively while working with Muslim American communities.

Now more than ever, we need to foster stronger relationships, trust, and rapport between communities and law enforcement agencies, since both depend on each other for personal and public safety. To help achieve this, we want to help provide officers with cultural competency skills that will help them do an even better job in their day-to-day work, while building bridges and initiating community partnerships that they can depend on.
We recognize the important role and work of law enforcement, and we also want to help counter stereotypes about them while fostering relationships between them and the communities they serve.

- Available in a four-hour format, this training includes panelists representing Muslim, Jewish, Black, Asian, Latino/Hispanic and Indigenous communities.
- Responding to Anti-Muslim Hate Crimes #23291
- Available in two- and four-hour formats, this training includes one or more Muslim American speakers.
Both trainings are interactive and provide plenty of time to respond to questions as well as exercises to help practice and internalize what participants learn.
In the past few years, ING successfully completed over 60 in-person and virtual trainings with police departments across California, all of which earned incredibly positive feedback from the commanding officers and trainees.
