TO THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY: PARENT-CHILD WORKSHOPS

ING began its outreach program to the Muslim community by offering
Parent-Child Workshops in local mosques and Islamic centers. The workshops
included two sessions, one for students and the other for parents
titled, "Preventing Hate in the Schools & Workplace". The workshops
specifically taught students and parents about their rights and what
measures they could take to prevent from becoming victims of hate.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Youth parallel session: "Dealing With Hate At School"
- Defining hate and its forms on school campuses
- Psychology of people that hate (to develop empathy as well as courage)
- Constructive ways to prevent & respond to hate - Roleplays
Adult parallel session: "Dealing with Hate in Your Child's School
& Your Workplace":
- Forms of hate your children experience in schools & constructive
remedies for parents
- Forms of hate in the workplace & constructive remedies
- Tips for preventing hate in the workplace
Speakers:
-Linda Ordonio-Dixon, Trial Attorney, EEOC
-Dian Chin, Executive Director, Chinese for Affirmative Action
-Hugh Vasquez, founder of Todos, premier Bay Area organization conducting
work in diversity.
