Other notable scriptures

 In order to communicate the subtle truths about Dharma (the art of righteous living) and Brahma Vidya (knowledge of Brahman) and generate devotion to seek the highest Truth among people, individuals Rishis have presented the Truth through stories and parables wherein the scriptures provide the science of life and the art of living:

• Puranas: The deeper truths in scriptures are presented in eighteen Puranas, the most famous being the Srimad Bhagavatam.
• There are two great epics called Ramayana and Mahabharata, commonly thought of as history, which were composed by Valmiki and Vyasa respectively. They contain many scriptural teachings side by side with stories of the various dynasties.
• The agamas are a special class of literature, highly technical in nature, providing guidance for the construction and consecration of temples and images and the various ritual practices connected with them.
