ING Celebrates Over 19 Years of Community Service
During the past 20 years, we have seen an increased awareness about Islam and Muslims in the United States. From the Gulf War in 1991 to the tragic events of September 11th and subsequent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, the image of Islam and Muslims, which is often associated with these events by the media, is often not representative of the true nature of Islam or its practitioners. In order to provide a more balanced perspective, ING has spent over 19 years providing valuable educational programs and resources, including onsite presentations about Islam and Muslims. Our goal is to eliminate stereotypes, dispel myths, and increase religious literacy while fostering mutual respect among people of all faiths and none. The Interfaith Speakers Bureau expands these efforts by teaching about the five major world religions through interactive panels that discuss the commonalities and practices of each faith.
ING Accomplishments
Since 1993, ING's educational outreach efforts have had a positive impact in diverse venues both locally and nationally. ING’s accomplishments are evidenced locally in the San Francisco Bay Area, home to one of the largest Muslim communities in the nation, as well as nationally, through the Islamic Speaker Bureau program which is implemented by our affiliates throughout the country. Learn about the positive impact that ING presentations and panels have had on students by reading a sampling of testimonials.

ING Programs, 1993-2011
ING offers Islamic presentations and interfaith panels in the context of supplementing educational curriculum in middle schools, high schools, and institutions of higher education. Additionally, ING provides professional development workshops to increase religious literacy and cultural competency skills in public and private organizations. To meet the needs for speakers, ING hosts training workshops locally and nationally on an ongoing basis. In the San Francisco Bay Area, we serve the following eight counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz. Provided below is a history of the major events and accomplishments of ING over the past 19 years.
