ING Presentations and Panels in K-12 Schools, 1993-2009

Although ING offers educational services to all K-12 public and private schools, ING delivers presentations and panels primarily to students in grades 7-12 in middle and high schools to supplement required curriculum in World History, U.S. History and Social Sciences classes. As part of the California State Board of Education content standards since 1989, Islam and other major world religions are taught in grades 7th, 8th, 10th, 11th and 12th. To support middle and high school teachers in teaching this curriculum, ING certified speakers deliver scholar- developed presentations and interfaith panels, and address questions from the students about the faith they are representing.

ING presentations bring academic and theoretical subjects to life and provide an interactive environment for students to learn more about the topic and help dispel common stereotypes. ING currently serves schools in the following eight San Francisco Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Monterey, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Santa Cruz.

In the past 17 years, ING has presented to over 9,000 classes, reaching nearly 300,000 students in K-12 schools. The request for presentations in the 2001-2002 school year was unusually high due to the need for accurate information about Islam and Muslims after the 9/11 tragedy.
